Anna

Oh my, I struggled with the hair on Anna’s portrait . This was my second inked version of the portrait- the first one I experimented with a brush pen on thee hair using heavier inked lines but hated the result so much I drew the whole portrait all over again. But I still didn’t get the hair right. I don’t like it at all. But tomorrow is another day and I’ll draw another portrait.

I drew Anna in my Moleskine watercolour sketchbook with a Unipin fineliner, painted her with Zecchi Toscana watercolours and finished the portrait with Prismacolor coloured pencils.

I love drawing things. These days I am rarely found without a pen, pencil or stylus in my hands. In my working life I spend a lot of time in meetings and classrooms, reading papers and strategies, so my home life provides a creative antidote to all that! I also have chronic pain, lots of it. I have scoliosis, fibromyalgia and CRPS, so my life is a balancing act, trying to balance work, which make me feel part of the real world, with pain, which is ever present, and art, which soothes my pain.

      1. why don’t you like it? The blue in it is lovely. That’s a crappy word choice… I know. But I love the “scribble” in her hair. I want you to relax about your standards. Even tho, yes, you do draw and paint better than this technically. More important is what comes across tho… for me. You made her beautiful. know matter what.

      2. Thanks again. I suppose it didn’t turn out the way I hoped, I imagined a rather different result – but that’s drawing and painting for you. But I love it when people like you make me reassess my work and look at it differently – so I’m very grateful. Definitely seeing it a little differently now.

      3. You should feel good about it because of YOU. I know us artists need an audience. It’s part of what we are about. And that’s not vanity. It’s the human connection. It’s what we witness. I love how you see people… yes I like to see how you portray women… how they are beautiful but not objects of beauty. You paint what’s good.

      4. That’s nice of you to say. But I do get kinda pompous, so please put me in my place when I do that to you. Ok? If I ever do? Don’t let me. I like your art. You are better than me. I refuse to be jealous tho! Just inspired. 🙂
