Juli

This was fun! Digital drawing can be very liberating because the ability to work in layers makes it so much easier to correct mistakes and experiment with new different approaches and ideas. And I think that often shows in my digital portraits, like this one of Juli which I finished very quickly and deliberately decided not to spend too much time tidying it up because I didn’t to lose that sense of freshness.

Laya

This has been a crazy week and I haven’t had time to draw for almost a week, which I think is the longest I’ve gone without drawing in at least five years. But hooray, it’s Saturday, and I have some breathing space and time to sketch.

This is Laya from Sktchy drawn on my iPad Pro using the Procreate app.

Daisy

I decided it was time to another portrait of my daughter Daisy. I was deliberately experimenting with a flatter more illustrative style with this portrait- and working with a colour palette and elements that I know she likes. But I can think when I look at it is that the mouth is not quite right 😂

Nact

Keeping it simple today with a portrait in Procreate of Nact from Sktchy.

Laure

This Laure from Sktchy drawn on my iPad Pro using the Procreate app.

Nazli

This is Nazli from Sktchy. I was playing with texture in Procreate for this portrait, using Lisa Bardot’s fabulous Pencil Box brushes.

Álfrún

Álfrún was one of my first Sktchy draws and every so often I return to her gallery to find another photo to draw. She has a wonderful collection of inspiration photos to choose from and such a beautiful face to draw. Capturing such fair skintones and light hair effectively is also a challenging exercise for me to return to. I used Lisa Bardot’s new upadted Pencil Box brush collection for Procreate to draw this portrait on my iPad Pro.

Yuka

It’s been a very busy week at with little time for drawing so this portrait of Yuka from Sktchy drawn in Procreate on my iPad Pro is all I’ve managed to finish.

Jenell

I

I enjoyed drawing this portrait of Jenell from Sktchy so much. I had my second Covid vaccination a few days ago and once again it’s made me fairly unwell so I’ve taken a few days off work and haven’t really been able to sit at my desk and draw. But I can hold my iPad for a little while and draw on it in short bursts and I’ve drawn this over a few days. And once I finished I played around with the colours in Procreate and couldn’t decide which one I liked best so I put all four together.

I’ve posted the original below too so you can see what it looks like as I actually drew it.

Muxi

In case you hadn’t guessed, I’m now obsessed with these brushes and this technique I’m developing in Procreate. It works beautifully with this portrait of Sktchy inspiration Muxi – this is drawn from a contemporary photo but I love the traditional vibe this technique has created.
