Jenell

I

I enjoyed drawing this portrait of Jenell from Sktchy so much. I had my second Covid vaccination a few days ago and once again it’s made me fairly unwell so I’ve taken a few days off work and haven’t really been able to sit at my desk and draw. But I can hold my iPad for a little while and draw on it in short bursts and I’ve drawn this over a few days. And once I finished I played around with the colours in Procreate and couldn’t decide which one I liked best so I put all four together.

I’ve posted the original below too so you can see what it looks like as I actually drew it.

Muxi

In case you hadn’t guessed, I’m now obsessed with these brushes and this technique I’m developing in Procreate. It works beautifully with this portrait of Sktchy inspiration Muxi – this is drawn from a contemporary photo but I love the traditional vibe this technique has created.

Faulzy

I’ve been working some more today with my new Procreate brush so I don’t forget how I used it and have also been developing my technique a little more. This is a portrait of Faulzy from Sktchy and I used a TextureTown and ballpoiinty brush in the Procreate app on my iPad Pro.

Mic

Mel

This is drawn on an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil using the Procreate app, from an inspiration photo posted by Melissa on Sktchy. I usually title my portraits with the name of the inspiration but I don’t know the name of the subject of Melissa’s photo so I’ve used the shortened non-gendered version of her name, Mel, as the title of the portrait and this post.

Melek

I’m trying to be a lot quicker and looser in my drawing in the hoping of finding some motivation, inspiration, flow. I’m not sure if it’s working but I do like the look of this portrait of Melek so I’ll keep pushing in this direction and see what happens.

I drew this on an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil using the Procreate app.

Keiunna

I’m really struggling with my drawing at the moment so with this portrait I wasn’t aiming for anything in particular, just at getting something down on my iPad that felt OK to me. So I left this as soon as I thought I’d captured something rather than keep messing with it and potentially spoiling or overworking that. I would usually work for a lot longer refining the skin tones and adding details so this portrait of Keiunna from Sktchy feels quite raw but I like it.

Andrea

Every so often we all have crises of confidence. I’m having one at the moment. I’m wondering if that’s because I’m not drawing as often as usual. I do know that I don’t want to post many of my portraits. I’m not sure it’s about the drawing to be honest, I think it’s more about a crisis of confidence more generally.

What I do know is that only way to get around it is to get through it bu keeping on drawing and posting. So here is today’s portrait of Andrea from Sktchy, drawn on my iPad Pro.

Yanina

This is a portrait of Yanina, focusing on the nose, for Sktchy’s Anatomy with Tiffany class. I’m not sure what happened with my shadows here – she looks likes come out of a fight. I’ve spent a while trying to resolve the problem but given up for now – can’t quite figure out why I can’t get the blending to work. I’ll have to come back to it when I have the time and energy.

Drawing Noses

I’ve done a couple of nose studies in Procreate today – the most that I could manage on a busy work day today.
