I’ve just realised that I completed my Copic marker sketchbook a few days ago – I didn’t notice that I was on the last page when I was drawing in it. So I’ve filmed a flip through of it and posted it on my YouTube channel.

This is the lovely Julieta from Sktchy. I used to work only in Copic markers but I think it’s fair to say that I couldn’t imagine working only with markers these days. I always work over them with coloured pencils to add more subtlety and sheen to the skintones and highlights in the hair. They are also great for working over smalll errors in my linework!
I lost the likeness a little in this portrait of Lindsay from Sktchy but it was fun to draw. I was back in my comfort zone of Copic markers and coloured pencils which always feels so much more controllable than any other medium to me, so I was maybe a bit too relaxed and forgot to keep an eye on the likeness!
This is Maia from Sktchy. I had thought I might just draw this portrait with Copic markers but then I went too dark and blocky on the hair and I needed to use coloured pencils to break the colour up a bit, and then, of course, I couldn’t resist adding some pencil to the eyes and glasses too. But it’s mostly Copics 🙂
This is Julia from Sktchy. I was struck by how strange the proportions of her face looked in her Sktchy photo and I had fun capturing them in my portrait. I’m not suggesting she has a strangely proportioned face, merely that the camera did something weird when it took the photo, as cameras often do. I’m noticing that it’s these slightly “off” photos that attract my attention more and more – wondering if it’s a response to the endless stream of manufactured perfection we get fed by the media?

I’m not sure quite how this portrait of Allie from Sktchy ended up like this! I was trying to be looser and freer with my drawing but the portrait ended up a bit too much of a caricature for my liking.

This is another portrait from the Sktchy portrait course “Drawing Anatomy with Tiffany”. This is Beata and the focus was meant to be on her ear, though I had the most fun with her nose and eye as usual. I used Copic markers and Prismacolor coloured pencils.
I’ve been plagued with killer migraines for almost a week so haven’t done any drawing for days but what a face to return to. This is Matt from Sktchy and he was great drawing practice for eyes and a nose especially!
I’ve been working very slowly on this portrait of Diana from Sktchy over a few days after I reacted badly to my first Covid vaccination. Five days later and I’m still not feeling well but I keep reminding myself I’m lucky to have got the vaccination so soon.
