I’m really struggling with my drawing at the moment so with this portrait I wasn’t aiming for anything in particular, just at getting something down on my iPad that felt OK to me. So I left this as soon as I thought I’d captured something rather than keep messing with it and potentially spoiling or overworking that. I would usually work for a lot longer refining the skin tones and adding details so this portrait of Keiunna from Sktchy feels quite raw but I like it.
This is a portrait of Yanina, focusing on the nose, for Sktchy’s Anatomy with Tiffany class. I’m not sure what happened with my shadows here – she looks likes come out of a fight. I’ve spent a while trying to resolve the problem but given up for now – can’t quite figure out why I can’t get the blending to work. I’ll have to come back to it when I have the time and energy.
I’ve done a couple of nose studies in Procreate today – the most that I could manage on a busy work day today.

This was a quick eye study of Tiffany for my Sktchy portrait anatomy class , drawn on my iPad Pro using the Procreate app.
A year or so ago I took a Sktchy portrait anatomy class with medical illustrator Tiffany S. Davanzo. I absolutely loved it and right now Tiffany is offering a new portrait anatomy course on Sktchy. I was trying to resist this new one because I don’t really have the time for it but, of course, once I saw portraits of skulls popping up in my Sktchy and Instagram feeds I caved and signed up. I loved the Sktchy inspiration photo for this portrait of Livey’s toddler and I really wanted to play a little bit with his shadow. When I was drawing it definitely wanted to be a bird monster of some kind so that’s what it became.

Today’s portrait is not from Sktchy. This is Naomi, the aerialist from Draw Brighton’s Drawing Circus, drawn on my iPad Pro.
Since the first Covid lockdown in the UK last Spring I’ve been a supporter of Draw Brighton, my local life drawing school which had to shut its doors due to coronavirus but started offering activities via Patreon to provide income for its teachers and models. They offer virtual life and portrait drawing sessions, blogs and a range of online classes and activities each month and they also they release photos of their models and from the Drawing Circus (their themed semi-clothed life drawing troupe) archive.
