I’ve been an admirer of Sinead O’Connor as both a person and musician for my entire adult life. I was so sorry to hear of her untimely death and the only thing I can do to respond to it, to show my respect for her, is to draw her. Rest in power Sinead.

For some reason this portrait of Hannah has taken me days to complete. I was away on holiday for a week a couple of weeks ago and returned to technological mayhem with my email down for days, which disrupted my life hugely. And it feels like I’m only just getting now beginning to get back into my work, draw, rest rhythm of life. Anyway I finished it eventually, though I fear I aged Hannah by about 10 years 😂

This is Mussu from the Museum by Sktchy app. I drew her in a Sketchbook Skool Spark Drawing Faces class. The drawing didn’t work out – I ended up with large “watermarks” from the alcohol markers on her forehead and cheeks so I decided to use the drawing in a subsequent class on touching up drawings on the iPad.
So this is the portrait after those watermarks have been touched up a little on the iPad. I’ve also cleaned up other parts of the portrait digitally and added some highlights with a digital pencil brush. Loving how I was able to turn a disaster into a used learning opportunity 😊

I drew Ellie on my iPad Pro using the Procreate app and True Grit Texture Supply Chromograph brushes.

May the Fourth be with you! Happy Star Wars day. I spend the whole year looking forward to my Star Wars day portrait 😂 This year I had to celebrate the fact that Carrie Fisher is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today.
So I drew Jaan from Sktchy in Princess Leia cosplay. She has a whole series of photos in this costume and I’ve drawn another one before but I loved drawing her again, this time on my iPad Pro (I drew the last one with Copic markers).

I was playing around with some watercolour brushes in Procreate on my iPad for this portrait of Rines from Sktchy.

Sometimes it’s good to keep it simple.

I love holiday weekends because I get so much more time to just play around with drawing and experiment. Over last Easter weekend I had fun with a Chromograph stippling brush on my iPad Pro and tweaked a line stippling brush I already had so that I could use that with it, and drew this portrait of Korka from the Museum by Sktchy app. Obviously influenced by Van Gogh and Seurat but I was also very much just playing around and having fun and seeing where that took me.

We worked on creating simple poster style portraits on our iPads using 4 colour palettes in this week’s Spark class. I drew this portrait of Stacey from Sktchy during the class. After class I played around with the gradient map in Procreate to create the alternative versions below.
