Holly Golightly

I’ve almost finished my Screen Queens themed sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project 2021 and of course I had to include the queen of all screen queens Miss Holly Golightly. I did dither a little bit and briefly consider including an alternative Audrey Hepburn character. I always knew I was going to include Audrey Hepburn but wasn’t 100% sure which character t draw, but the more I thought about it the more I knew it had to be Holly Golightly because she’s just so iconic. And she was a lot of fun to draw.

Trinity

I’m close to completing my “Screen Queens” sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project 2021 now. Today I drew Trinity from The Matrix, one of the most kick-ass screen icons from one of my all time favourite movies. I’ve seen Carrie-Anne Moss in many wonderful roles since but to me she will always be Trinity first and foremost.

Villanelle

Today I’ve been working on another page in my little sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project 2021. My Screen Queen for today is Villanelle from the wonderful BBC drama “Killing Eve“, played by Jodie Comer. I’m beginning to realise that most of my Screen Queens are kick ass women with assertively violent streaks. Not sure what that says about me 🙂

Andréa

This is another page in my Screen Queens sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project. It’s a portrait of Andréa Martel from the French drama Call My Agent, played by Camille Cottin, who is unquestionably my lockdown screen queen.

O-Ren Ishii

This is another portrait for my “Screen Queens” sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project 2021. It’s a portrait of O-Ren Ishii from the Kill Bill movie trilogy, played by Lucy Liu.

Amelie

This is another page from my sketchbook for Brooklyn Art Library’s “The Sketchbook Project 2021”. I chose the theme “no erasing” because I wanted to use ballpoint pens throughout the sketchbook and the title of my book is “Screen Queens”. This queen is Amelie, played by Audrey Tautou.

Zoë Washburne

My second portrait for my “Screen Queens” sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project 2021 is Zoë Washburne from the cult TV show Firefly and the movie Serenity, played by the very awesome Gina Torres. Firefly is definitely in my top 10 favourite TV shows ever and Zoë is a totally badass.

Ser Brienne of Tarth

This year I am participating in Brooklyn Art Library’s Sketchbook Project for the fourth time. I missed a year last year but signed up again this year in November but have only just received my sketchbook – the first one the library sent out to me went missing in the pandemic post so they dispatched a replacement in January which finally arrived on Friday.

I’ve decided that my sketchbook this year will be a celebration of some of my favourite female characters on screen and I’m going to draw them all in ballpoint pen to fit with the Sketchbook Project 2021 theme of “No Erasing”. And who better to fill the first page of my sketchbook than Ser Brienne of Tarth?
