May the Fourth be with you! Happy Star Wars day. I spend the whole year looking forward to my Star Wars day portrait 😂 This year I had to celebrate the fact that Carrie Fisher is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today.
So I drew Jaan from Sktchy in Princess Leia cosplay. She has a whole series of photos in this costume and I’ve drawn another one before but I loved drawing her again, this time on my iPad Pro (I drew the last one with Copic markers).

It always takes me a little while to get used to the change of paper when I start a new watercolour sketchbook, especially if I’ve changed from one brand to another. My last one was a Fabriano Venezia and this is only my second painting in my new one, a Moleskine, so I’m still making that adjustment, but I’m pretty happy with how David’s portrait turned out.

I was playing around with some watercolour brushes in Procreate on my iPad for this portrait of Rines from Sktchy.

Lots of meditative hatching for this portrait of Diey.

Sometimes it’s good to keep it simple.

This is Jaan drawn with a fineliner, Copic markers and coloured pencils in this week’s Sketchbook Skool Spark Drawing Faces class.

First portrait in my new watercolour portrait sketchbook – a large Moleskine watercolour sketchbook.

I love holiday weekends because I get so much more time to just play around with drawing and experiment. Over last Easter weekend I had fun with a Chromograph stippling brush on my iPad Pro and tweaked a line stippling brush I already had so that I could use that with it, and drew this portrait of Korka from the Museum by Sktchy app. Obviously influenced by Van Gogh and Seurat but I was also very much just playing around and having fun and seeing where that took me.
