Summer

Shaking myself out of post-Christmas malaise and into drawing action with this portrait of Summer. I got a Repaper device for Christmas and drew this old school style with a pencil on my Repaper, then imported that sketch into Procreate to add line and colour to it digitally. I need to work more with the Repaper to figure out how to get the best of it but it definitely produces a more authentic pencil line than working directly on the iPad.

Star

I was gifted some new watercolours for Christmas and this portrait of Star from Sktchy is their first outing. They performed beautifully and I’m looking forward to working with them a whole lot more.

Henry

This was fun!

Adam

Winding down for the holidays with some ballpoint pen drawing. This is Adam from the Museum by Sktchy app drawn with Bic 4 colour ballpoint pens.

Santa Claus

Today in my Sketchbook Skool Spark class we had a lot of fun drawing Santa Claus from a copyright-free image posted on Unsplash by @krakenimages.

Fernando

Playing around with new brushes in Procreate for this digital portrait of Fernando from the Museum by Sktchy app.

Svet

I love to draw faces with a lot of reflected light on them so this portrait of Svet from the Museum by Sktchy was a lot of fun for me. There’s nothing I enjoy more than building that shadow and light, layer by layer.

Richard

Quick portrait of Richard from Sktchy with watercolour and coloured pencils.

Wendy

When you draw muses from the Museum by Sktchy app for a long time you inevitably develop favourites. Wendy is an absolute favourite of mine. I love drawing her. She has the best eyes and such an expressive face, and all her photos are well-lit and interesting. They are everything I look for when I’m looking for a great image to draw from.

Sydney

I was recently gifted some Winsor & Newton watercolour markers. I’ve never used watercolour markers before so this portrait of Sydney was my first experiment with them. I was a long way out of my comfort zone but it was fun to play around with the colour and see what the markers could do. The most interesting thing I learned was that some of the colours respond much better to the addition of water than others – it will take me a while to remember which ones!
