Weston

Today is Day 1 of Inktober 2021 when artists worldwide draw in ink for the entire month. Today’s Inktober prompt is Crystal and I chose to draw Sktchy muse Weston WIlliams with a Bic 4 colour pen.

Taran

My last few watercolours have been a complete disaster. I’m not sure why, I just seem to have been really struggling with technique, control, paper, everything. It goes that way sometimes. So it’s been a few weeks since I’ve opened my watercolour sketchbook. But today I painted this portrait and it came out so better than anything I’ve done recently and I’m so glad. I made plenty of mistakes, pilling the paper in a few places, but I’m still very happy with it. Hoping it means I’ve found my watercolour mojo again.

Kennedy

My husband bought me a SketchboardPro as a gift and this portrait of Kennedy is the first drawing I’ve made on my iPad Pro using it. The iPad Pro fits into it and it basically creates a much larger and portable working desk space for drawing, which you can use anywhere. I love how much space it gives me to rest my arm now.

Vazha

I’m still struggling to draw at my desk due to lower back problems but it’s improving slowly with treatment. I’m managing a little bit of drawing most days so here’s a portrait of Vazha from the Museum by Sktchy app drawn with Bic 4-colour ballpoint pens.

Laura

I’m seriously struggling with agonising chronic pain at the moment after making so many trips by rail to London these past few weeks for specialist treatment. I can’t sit down t my desk to draw at all but I did manage to finish this drawing of Laura on my iPad Pro today. Hooray.

Tara

I love the inspiration photo (which can be found on the Museum by Sktchy app) for this portrait of Tara so much. I thought such a wonderful face deserved the Copic treatment so I spent some time in my Copic marker comfort zone, knowing that I’d probably get the best results there. And I’m so happy with the finished portrait.

Maju

I started this portrait of Maju on my iPad on the train on Tuesday and finally got around to finishing it today. I love the flexibility of iPad drawing – it’s so easy to start a drawing on one day, leave it part way through, pick it up again some days later and just carry on from where I left off. I don’t generally do this with sketchbook drawing but my iPad goes everywhere with me and so I often have a WIP (work in progress) on it.

J

I’ve lost my pencil case with my drawing ballpoint pens in it. This is a major disaster. It’s taken me several days to replace my 4 colour Bics (especially the one with turquoise & light green) and I can’t find another golden yellow ballpoint anywhere. Paperchase don’t make the one I had any more. Aargh! I don’t know what happened to my pencil case but very afraid someone (not saying who) accidentally knocked it into a bin bag when emptying the rubbish bin under my desk… So making do while I rebuild my ballpoint pen collection. Moral of the story is to treasure your precious drawing supplies and guard the hard to replace ones jealously.

Siobhan

I’m on three different hospital pathways for fairly serious treatments at the moment and it’s all getting a bit overwhelming. I needed to get “good” blood pressure readings today to send to one of the hospitals and my anxiety was so high the ones I was getting this morning really weren’t good, so I did some drawing – and after a couple of hours my BP had reduced from high to normal and I was feeling so much better. Thanks to Siobhan and the Museum by Sktchy app for the free therapy.

Jing-Tang

I spent half a day in hospital last week having a cardiac scan and picked up some vile virus (not Covid, I’ve had a PCR test and it’s negative) which has made me feel very unwell. I don’t have the energy to sit at a table and draw so digital drawing is the most I can manage. So glad to have actually managed to finish this portrait of Jing-Tang from the Museum app (which is what Sktchy has rebranded as) today.
