Richard

We’ve been working on tone in this week’s Sketchbook Skool Spark class and Richard’s face was such a good model to work from, offering such a good range of values.

Frida

We were drawing/painting Frida in today’s Sketchbook Skool Draw with Me session and I liked my effort so much I thought I’d share it here.

Draw With Me is live on YouTube every Thursday at 9am PT (4pm GMT) and it’s free. You can watch this week’s session here and subscribe to get a reminder of future sessions.

Jericho

This is another portrait from a couple of Sketchbook Skool Spark classes where we’ve been looking at drawing faces that are at an angle. This is a portrait of Jericho and we were focusing on trying to make sure his features were lined up with the angle of his face, which is not horizontal to the camera. We drew him last week and added colour in this week’s class, with Copic markers and coloured pencils.

Cocomarie

We’ve been looking at drawing faces that are at an angle in my Sketchbook Skool Spark class this week. We started just practicing with line drawing and drew a couple of faces. One of them was Cocomarie. So I did the line drawing in class and finished the portrait afterwards with Copic markers and coloured pencils.

Annett

I’ve been teaching some iPad drawing in my Sketchbook Skool Spark class for the past few weeks and this is the portrait that I was working on in Procreate in those classes.

We started by learning how to adjust brushes and work with layers and clipping masks before moving on to drawing our portrait of Annett. It’s been a lot of fun and I’m amazed at how much progress the students have made!

Ski Mask

I had so much fun drawing this ski mask in Sketchbook Skool’s Drawing Faces class yesterday that I almost forgot to post it!

Santa Claus

Today in my Sketchbook Skool Spark class we had a lot of fun drawing Santa Claus from a copyright-free image posted on Unsplash by @krakenimages.

Eden

I was working on this portrait of Eden from the Museum by Sktchy app during last week’s Sketchbook Skool Drawathon but I’ve only just got around to finishing it. I drew it on my iPad Pro using the Procreate app and the very fabulous True Grit Texture Supply’s Chromagraph brushes.

I’ve posted a short Procreate timelapse video of my drawing process on my YouTube channel. If you’d like to see it you can find it here.

Emily’s dog

I drew this little guy in my Sketchbook Skool Spark class on Sunday and forgot to post the portrait until today. I love drawing dogs, maybe because I don’t feel so much pressure to get a good likeness and I always think that with dogs it’s all about the eyes and nose. Dog’s noses are so much fun to draw!

Scott

Sketchbook Skool are holding a 12 hour Drawathon today and I’ve been participating for the past 3 hours (and was the host for one of those hours). Doing the whole 12 hours just isn’t realistic for me because I have a number of chronic illnesses but I’m happy to have done three – and I finished this portrait of Scott from Museum by Sktchy during that time. It was also very cool to be in a virtual space drawing along with a couple of hundred sketchers from all over the world!
