Zoe

I bought some new Japanese coloured pencils last week and tried them out today with this portrait of Zoe from the Museum by Sktchy app. They are Irojiten pencils made by Tombow and they’re beautiful to use – so creamy and very blendable. It was very easy to build up beautiful layers of colour with them in this portrait.

Eden

I lost the likeness with this portrait of Eden from Sktchy but i loved drawing it and that’s what matters.

Sasha

Sometimes I bite off more than I can chew, especially when it comes to what I can do in 45 minutes in class. That was certainly the case with this portrait of Sasha from Sktchy. I really didn’t have enough time to blend the greys in the shadow thoroughly. But I’m surprised at what I did manage in under an hour.

Vsevolod

Taking a few days off work this week to recharge my batteries which , of course, means drawing more. This is Vsevolod from the Museum by Sktchy app drawn on my iPad Pro.

Marcus

This is Marcus from the Museum by Sktchy app drawn with Bic 4 colour ballpoint pens.

Sinead

I’ve been an admirer of Sinead O’Connor as both a person and musician for my entire adult life. I was so sorry to hear of her untimely death and the only thing I can do to respond to it, to show my respect for her, is to draw her. Rest in power Sinead.

Distorted Selfie

We were drawing distorted selfies in today’s Drawing Faces class. I find that drawing distortion can be freeing because it helps us to draw without worrying so much about likeness, accuracy or flattery, especially when it comes to selfies. This is me reflected in the surface of a metal ball, which creates the curvature.

Sulphur

Celebrating the summer with this portrait of Sulphur from Sktchy.

Wendy

We drew Wendy, one of my favourite Sktchy muses, with ballpoint pens in my Spark Drawing Faces class yesterday .

Vanessa

This was one of those portraits where I just could not get Vanessa’s likeness. I knew absolutely where I was going wrong but no matter how many times I redrew it i couldn’t get it right. In the end I just decided to go with what I had and see if I could correct it with colour. I couldn’t. Some days it’s a struggle.
